J. Millard Tawes
Historical
Museum
Come to Crisfield early and
before you board the boat for your cruise to Tangier, wander through the
museum to learn more about the history of our town, which at one time was
the second largest city in the state of Maryland. Look at the
displays about the crabbing and oystering industry on the Chesapeake Bay.
You'll be overwhelmed
by
some of the most historical duck
carvings by the Ward brothers and other local carvers that date back
decades.
Then walk out to the museum's
crab shanty and learn more about soft shell crabs and how they are
processed. You can also arrange to tour some the
seafood houses where crabs, oysters and other seafood are prepared for delivery to the
marketplace.
The visit to the museum and the
tour of the seafood houses is an enjoyable way to start your day before
boarding the Steven Thomas for your ride to Tangier Island.
So contact us to arrange for a
visit. And check out more information about the visitor center and museums
in Crisfield at:
